Ovide opens Madrid office to expand in Europe

Ovide has opened an office in Madrid, marking its entry into Spain as the third market for the PR agency. The move is part of a broader plan to expand into 3 to 5 European countries in the coming years.

The expansion comes as Spain continues to position itself as one of Europe's more dynamic economies, creating opportunities for international brands and the agencies that support them.

Demand for local expertise increases

At the same time, Ovide sees a shift in the communications industry. Demand is growing for independent agencies that combine cross-border capabilities with strong local market knowledge.

Founded in the Netherlands, Ovide has grown over 6 years into an independent agency operating across the Benelux. Its client portfolio includes Netflix, Airbnb, Eurostar, Snapchat and Porsche. The agency combines creative campaigns with strategic communication advisory across reputation and policy.

European growth with local co-founders

The Madrid launch is part of Ovide's ambition to build a network of independent PR agencies across Europe. Founders Marieke Verhaar-Fennis and Gijs Moonen aim to expand into several additional European markets over the coming years.

Rather than a traditional multi-office structure, the agency operates with local co-founders. The Madrid office is led by Dorien Cox-Sanchez, who previously co-founded Ovide Belgium and has lived in Madrid for more than 10 years. The Spanish team is currently being built with local hires.

Marieke Verhaar-Fennis, co-founder, Ovide: "We see that international brands are increasingly looking for agencies that combine a European perspective with real local cultural knowledge. That is exactly the model we are building."

Gijs Moonen, co-founder, Ovide: "Reputation is shaped locally, through media, politics and culture, while companies increasingly operate across borders. Our ambition is to build a European network of independent teams that understands both realities."

Growth funded independently

Since its founding, Ovide has expanded steadily, entering a new market roughly every 2 years and reporting double-digit growth per office. Its international expansion is fully self-funded.

According to the agency, the move into Spain reflects a broader shift in the sector. As international agency networks continue to consolidate, independent agencies with strong local roots are becoming more relevant for international clients.
